Keycloak Redis Cache extension

Hello community,

We are delighted to announce the release of the first version of Redis Cache extension.

We’re looking for any feedback, bugs and improvement ideas.

This was presented at Keycloak DevDay 2026:

At this point, it should be considered alpha software, and we are actively looking for help with testing, validation and improvement.

So far, there are no plans for it to be supported by Keycloak in the near future.

Thanks for the update @embesozzi . We saw that comment on the PR to include it in Keycloak. For clarification, that wasn’t the same as our extension, and as far as we could tell, wasn’t a serious effort to make a useful implementation.

The principal reason we decided to develop this as an extension rather than PR to Keycloak core was the expectation that it would wouldn’t be integrated/supported immediately. We did the same thing with our organizations extension, waited 3 years for them to quietly change their minds, and then they copied the implementation.

We’ve got a couple of large companies currently testing the Redis implementation. We’re aware that it changes the operational profile of Keycloak, so it’s not going to fit everyone’s use case. However, I think there’s value in sharing approaches that work for specific use cases as a mechanism to get the community thinking about possibilities.
